A Challenge for Lent

March should hopefully bring us some drier weather and even more signs of spring together with longer days to help with the drying out process so much needed after all the rain in recent months.
5th; March also sees the beginning of Lent, a period given to us to take stock of our lives as we approach the time when we recall Christ’s crucifixion and eventually his resurrection which we will celebrate with joy at Easter. You will find listed elsewhere the dates of our various services but this Lent we will be hosting two of the Deanery Lent Services, one at Ettington on Tuesday 25th March and the other at Pillerton on Tuesday 8th April, both at 7.30 pm. They are excellent services with good visiting speakers so do try and come along. We will also have the lovely evening service of Compline in Ettington Church at 7.30 pm every Wednesday. This is a short prayerful service designed to focus our thoughts on God, again, well worth attending.
In addition we are offering everyone a chance to do something positive this Lent by supporting ‘Jars of Change’ to raise money for Water Aid. There will be  leaflets about this in all the churches inviting you to set aside a jar in which you can place your change during Lent. You may also like to consider giving up something such as chocolate, alcohol, sweets, cakes, whatever, so that money saved can go towards providing clean water for communities in Sierra Leone. Access to clean water can save mothers and children hours of walking to collect often dirty water from distant wells or streams, it improves health and enables children to attend school more frequently. Help transform the lives of 12,500 people over the course of Lent this year! There’s a challenge!
