Cooking Biscuits!

Posted by GIFT admin on Sep 26, 2012 in GIFT

Hello again and welcome to the second of my blogs! This week, we spent the hour andThe Cake Decorator a half preparing, cooking and decorating biscuits. After splitting ourselves into four groups, Jane Evans provided us with a recipe that was very easy to follow, even for me! All we had to do was mix up 4 tablespoons of flour, 4 tablespoons of sugar, 100g of butter and 2 tablespoons of cornflour. Then we rolled the resulting blob of dough so it was flat, cut into shapes and cooked them. Having applied icing and various toppings, we spent the last ten minutes eating our creations. If anyone would like a more complete recipe than the one that I have given above, I am sure that Jane Evans will be happy to provide one.

Also this session, we were happy to welcome Jasper, Ellie and Berunka, who I hope will continue to go to GIFT, even if the meetings don’t always involve as much food as their first one!

Next week, we will out in Ettington, doing an orienteering challenge set by Mark, our new leader. A reminder to all GIFT members, wrap up warm!

If anybody has any comments or questions, please feel free to leave them below and I will try to answer as soon as possible.

1st Session Back

The GIFT members at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year

Hello and welcome to the first of my blogs! I will be writing one of these after most GIFT sessions and other events throughout this year, and hopefully beyond!

As this was our first meeting after the holidays, we spent some time at the start trying to think of a new charity to support this year. Last year we managed to raise around £100 for the “Make a Wish” foundation, a charity chosen by Anna Vestentoft, one of our older members. This year, following the success of the recent 2012 Paralympic Games, we agreed that we should support a charity which helps disabled athletes. After providing Jane Evans with a list of potential charities, we thought about how we could raise the money. There was a range of ideas; from the usual cake sale, to a sponsored parachute jump! Eventually, we had individual photos taken of us, followed by individual photos of us with various wigs, glasses, etc. At a joint church service sometime in the future, people will be able to pay a small fee to try to match the pictures, with the proceeds going to our chosen charity.

This session featured the appearance of  Mark Stevens, who is to be one of the leaders from now on. I understand he is an experienced Cub and Scout leader so he should be able to contribute well to the meetings. Also, we were joined by Will Willing, who is the brother of one of our members.

If anyone has any comments, please feel free to leave them below. I will release another of these short reports in about two weeks, after our next session.

Thank you for reading!
